San Antonio de Ibarra was once a small town like many others. It has an attractive if smallish central park and some interesting colonial architecture, and its people enjoyed a peaceful life and proximity to the pleasant city of Ibarra.

Then some of the people there – led by master woodcarver Luís Potosí – began making and selling small woodcarvings.
